Eden At Basel is a 3-day experience for artists of color who have been historically excluded from participating in global art events like Art Basel Miami. Our mission is to provide a safe haven for artists of color and reshape the art world into a more equitable space.Β We are honored to partner with Southeast Overtown Park West Community Redevelopment Agency in our mission toΒ champion the voices, talents, and aspirations of artists and creatives of color during Soul Basel Miami 2023.Β 

Our team is currently seeking interns and volunteers with art, event production, media and set production experience to help us bring the 2023 program to life.

The Eden At Internship and Volunteer Program: Soul Basel Miami Edition 2023

The Eden At internship and volunteer program is driven by a passion to recognize and develop emerging artists and creatives looking to gain more hands-on experience and insight on building careers in their respective industries. This unique program (with annual opportunities during Soul Basel Miami through 2027), will provide you with the chance to experience, collaborate and contribute to the creation of the 3-day artistic oasis that is Eden At Basel. 

When: December 7-9, 2023

Where: Overtown Performing Arts Center (OPAC)

  • Thursday, December 7 – Benefit Gala
  • Friday, December 8 – Creative Entrepreneurship Summit / Art Exhibition Opening / Networking Mixer
  • Saturday, December 9 – Community Service Day / Afternoon Art Experience

2023 Departments

  • Art: For the artists and art enthusiasts, provide on the ground assistance and support for Eden At Basel’s Art Director and Guest Curator of the weekend’s Art Exhibition.
  • Event Production Track I: Operations: Are you an event producer or production manager looking to gain more experience in curating large scale events? On the operations track, you’ll gain firsthand insight on event management and registration, ensuring there is an ease of flow throughout the duration of the event weekend.
  • Event Production Track II: Hospitality: The hospitality track will provide event producers and production managers with the opportunity to gain more experience in vendor management, guest services, and talent relations.
  • Media: Film, Photography, & Communications: For the photographers, videographers, and content creators, support our in-house media team in capturing content from the weekend. From social media takeovers to guest interviews, this is an ideal opportunity for expanding your content portfolio. Drone pilots are highly encouraged to apply!
  • Physical Production & Design: Set Designers, Fabricators, and Builders, we would love to have you join our physical production and design team as we transform the Overtown Performing Arts Center (OPAC) into an artistic oasis for the Eden At Basel weekend.

Internship & Volunteer Timeline

The dates for the 2023 program are December 4 – December 11. Individual participant lengths will vary based on department need. All dates are subject to change and availability. If selected to participate, you will confirm your daily working schedule as part of the onboarding process; participants will be required to work for a minimum of 4hrs per day on a rotating schedule.

Am I Eligible To Apply? Some Requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled and taking classes from a United States* college, university, or higher education program; Graduate students are encouraged to apply.
  • Working towards a degree in Art or Design, Physical Production, Communications, Marketing, Hospitality and Tourism, or another related field is preferred, but not required
  • A portfolio, resume, or CV submitted with your application
  • Eden At will only consider applicants who will be fully available to workΒ in person in Miami, FLΒ between December 4 – December 11 for the internship program during Art Basel Miami 2023. You may not be required to work during this entire time period, but must be available at some point within this window.

  • Select candidates will be invited to a 15-minute phone interview with Eden At intern and volunteer program director.
  • All candidates will receive a status update on their application by December 4th.
  • About a week prior to the event date, accepted applicants will receive confirmation of department placement. While we aim to place you in one of your top 3 department choices, please keep in mind, placement is always subject to change at any time based on business need.
  • Accepted candidates will be invited to join a mandatory virtual onboarding meeting on Friday, December 1st.
