Dean Karin Wilkins elected Chair of the ASCCJ Board of Directors

The University of Miami School of Communication proudly announces the election of Dean Karin Wilkins as Chair of the Alliance of Schools and Colleges of Communication and Journalism (ASCCJ) Board of Directors. This esteemed position underscores Wilkins’ leadership in the field and her commitment to advancing communication and journalism education across academic institutions.

Founded in 2018, the ASCCJ is dedicated to fostering excellence in communication and journalism programs across the United States and around the world. The organization unites and supports academic institutions to enhance collaboration, integrity, and diversity within the field. ASCCJ provides vital resources for its member schools, including facilitating information exchange among deans and directors, managing the collection and sharing of benchmarking data, and advocating for important issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Under Wilkins’ leadership, the ASCCJ aims to strengthen collaboration among schools and colleges of communication and journalism, facilitating shared problem-solving for the unique challenges faced by comprehensive academic institutions. The organization also supports excellence in graduate studies in communication and journalism, helping member institutions navigate the evolving landscape of media and communication education.

Dr. Jay M. Bernhardt, the past Chair and president of Emerson College, expressed his confidence in the continued success of ASCCJ under Wilkins’ leadership, “Since its start, ASCCJ has played an important role in support of the largest and most comprehensive schools and colleges of communication and journalism. I’m proud of the work we led to provide strong support for schools, deans, and academic leaders during the pandemic; collect and share data to benchmark our programs against our member schools; create leadership networks in development, diversity, and graduate programs; and increase our voice and influence in the accreditation process. I’m confident this work will continue growing in reach and impact under the new leadership team.”

Wilkins is eager to embrace her new responsibilities and continue the vital work of ASCCJ. “The opportunity to lead such an impactful organization is both a privilege and a responsibility,” she said. “I look forward to working with our member institutions to advance our shared mission of excellence and impact in communication and journalism education.”
