Peer Educators engage their fellow ‘Canes in thinking critically about their actions, are passionate about
promoting healthy lifestyles, as well as personal and social responsibility for all University of Miami students.
While working for the Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Education, peer educators report directly to the
Assistant Dean of Students/Director and Graduate Assistants overseeing the Center. Our Peer Educators develop
a wide range of skills including: leadership, time management, public speaking, teamwork, program planning,
marketing & evaluation.
In addition to holding office hours each week, peer educators are required to work at programs throughout the
semester, including nights and weekends. These programs developed by the peer educators, are important for
facilitating discussions about alcohol and other drugs at the University of Miami. The most important part of the
peer educator position is the ability to attend and present at programs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Developing and executing educational programs and workshops for student organizations, resident
assistants, and other members of the campus community. - Creating and implementing social marketing, promotional, and educational campaigns.
- Assist with assessment and evaluation of programs.
- Assist with the development of education programming during Orientation, National Collegiate Alcohol
Awareness Month, Safe Spring Break, ULTRA related programming, and the Health Hut. - Participate in Weekly Staff Meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Graduate Assistants and/or Assistant Dean/Director
Availability: Work 10 hours per week between programs and office hours. Ability to attend programs during
days, evenings, and/or weekends is required.
Terms of Employment:
- Available for Training & Orientation starting August 15th, 2023
- Peer educators are role models and must display a certain level of integrity. They are required to comply
with all University regulations as set forth in the University of Miami Student Rights and Responsibilities
Handbook (SRR). - Peer educators must remain in good disciplinary standing with the University
- Peer educators must be undergraduate students enrolled in a degree seeking program
- Reappointment is based upon job performance, evaluation, dependability and continued enrollment in
the University
Skills Required:
- Strong verbal and writing skills; Social media & creative design skills are a plus!
- Ability to work well with a variety of students and student groups
- Ability to work late hours, evenings, and/or weekends is required
- Creativity and aptitude in developing and executing programs
