Overview
The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, health and biomedical research organization.
We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Content Writer to join our team and create engaging and informative articles. You will be responsible for researching, writing, and editing content on various topics related to the Hussman Institute.
Job Description
To be successful as a Content Writer, you should have good writing and editing skills, a keen eye for detail, and a strong interest in health and biomedical research. You should also be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and follow instructions. You should have some samples of your previous writing that demonstrate your ability to write clear, concise, and compelling content.
Responsibilities
- Research and write original and engaging articles on various topics related to the Hussman Institute (research and educational outreach programs)
- Develop content for branding, organic and paid social media, digital marketing ad messaging, advertising campaigns, press releases, print collateral, and newsletters.
- Edit and proofread your own work to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Use SEO best practices to optimize your content for search engines and increase web traffic.
- Stay up to date on industry trends to support content development.
- Collaborate with the communications team and faculty to learn from them and ensure factual correctness and relevance of the content.
- Convey complex concepts and language into content that is easily understood.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging, branding and style.
- Deliver high-quality content within the given timeframe.
- Work with the communications team to build editorial calendars.
Job Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in journalism, communications, English, marketing, or a related field
- Some experience as a Content Writer, Copywriter, or a similar role in the health niche (or a strong desire to learn)
- Samples of published articles or relevant work
- Good writing and editing skills in English
- Ability to write in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.
- Experience doing research using multiple sources.
- Knowledge of SEO principles and best practices (or willingness to learn)
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and follow instructions. ·
- Strong interest in health and wellness

- Writing in multiple styles for various channels
- Excellent understanding of web design methods and best practices
- Google Ads and Analytics certifications
