Program Overview

Technology in the broadcasting industry is changing, and it is changing fast. With a rapid audience shift to digital and an increasing need for a more technical workforce, the NAB Leadership Foundation is bridging the gap by offering the Technology Apprenticeship Program (TAP), an educational technical program designed to train, inform and recruit a diverse workforce that meets the emerging technology and engineering needs within the broadcasting community.

This hybrid six-month technical training program gives you the exposure, skills and connections to build a successful career in broadcasting. Through monthly virtual learning sessions and hands-on training during paid internships, you will gain the technical skills and recognition to make yourself valuable and earn a position in broadcast engineering and advance your career goals. At the end of the program, fellows will attend an in-person closing session which will take place at NAB Show, the preeminent industry event where content professionals from all corners of media, entertainment and technology meet to reimagine the future of broadcasting and communications.

  • NEXTGEN TV (ATSC 3.0) and Radio
  • Networking and IT Fundamentals for Broadcasters
  • Leadership in Tech: Resume, Interviewing and Networking
  • Cloud Practitioner Training, provided by sponsor Amazon Web Services
  • Current Trends in Broadcast Technology and Engineering
  • Membership and Certified Broadcast Technologist (CBT) certification, provided by Society of Broadcast Engineers

The NAB Leadership Foundation is seeking a limited number of qualified students to join the Technology Apprenticeship Program (TAP) to receive valuable technical training and industry connections to become part of the next generation of broadcasting.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree or attending technical school with a focus on subjects in electrical engineering, software development or other related technical fields, including IT, software engineering, cybersecurity and data science/analytics.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Experience or knowledge in electrical engineering, systems engineering, data science and analytics, web development, cybersecurity, information technology and information networking.
  • Passionate and interested in broadcast media, engineering and technology.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management.
  • Self-starter with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NAB or the NAB Leadership Foundation.
