We handle everything from media strategy and public affairs to crisis communications and digital campaigns. We’re looking to expand our Florida office and are hoping to bring on a new Associate who’s eager to start their career in PR and communications.

The Role:

Mercury’s Florida office seeks an engaged and driven associate who is a good communicator and accustomed to working directly with clients on tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Associates will be primarily responsible for supporting our government affairs, public affairs and media relations teams by fulfilling the below responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Drafting media advisories, press releases, and assisting with pitches
  • Drafting memos, reports and proposals
  • Conducting outreach to offices and staff of city and state elected officials, political figures, and community leaders
  • Tracking local and national legislation and monitoring relevant hearings and panels
  • Conducting research to support client projects and business development efforts and across a wide variety of fields and topics
  • Preparing briefings and biographies on elected officials and other prominent figures
  • Tracking media coverage for clients and compiling press clips and lists
  • Assisting in general office administrative tasks including scheduling, office management, and the planning and execution of office event

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; ability to complete and synthesize extensive information from a wide range of sources
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a member of a high functioning team
  • Proven ability to multitask, meet deadlines and function effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to manage a broad portfolio of projects simultaneously
  • Advanced ability to communicate in writing and in speech to a wide range of audiences including press, policymakers, corporations, technical experts, funders and the general public
  • A deep understanding of contemporary advocacy communications strategies and tactics
  • Entry-level familiarity with prompting AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, [Omnicom version]) to improve writing, research, and administrative efficiencies
  • Basic design skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, with experience preparing client-facing proposals, reports, and presentation materials.
