PBS News Student Reporting Labs (SRL) is launching a new fellowship opportunity for student journalists attending college.

SRL is seeking stories about how young people are working on solutions to respond to the climate crisis and other environmental issues

Potential pitches could be about young scientists, artists, activists, entrepreneurs, or other Gen Z change-makers. Does their approach work? What are the limitations? How can what they’re doing provide insight to other people?

Selected student journalists will work together in small teams to produce video stories during the spring 2025 semester. Accepted students will each receive a $500 stipend, professional mentorship from SRL staff, and access to professional equipment to film and edit. SRL will also cover the costs of lodging and transportation if travel is required to produce the story.

This opportunity is for students ages 18-25 from underrepresented backgrounds. Successful applicants must have some video journalism experience and be enrolled in post-secondary education, including trade school, community college, or a 4-year college or university.
