Staying Up All Night for a Good Cause

UM Debate Defeats Clemson to Win the 2018 ACC Debate Championship

On March 3-4, The UM Debate Team traveled to Clemson, South Carolina to compete in the Fourth Annual Atlantic Coast Conference Debate Championship Tournament. In each of the first three years of the tournament, UM advanced into the finals but settled for second place. This was finally the Hurricane’s year, however, as the UM Debate team dominated their competition. UM Policy Debate Makes a Strong Start at Mary Washington

On Oct. 13-15 University of Miami policy debaters took a stand on healthcare at Mary Washington University outside D.C. This event was the first junior varsity tournament for the squad, after having to miss an event at Georgia State University because of Hurricane Irma. Fall 4C Pilot Grants Awarded

A total of eight faculty members spread across six departments were awarded 4C Pilot Grants by the University of Miami School of Communication Center for Communication, Culture, and Change. These grants are awarded three times per year to fund interdisciplinary projects that align with the mission of the center and are designed to provide data to compete for external funding from private, foundation, and government sources. UM Debates at Sunshine Showdown

The University of Miami Debate Team began the season competing against students from the University of Florida and the University of Central Florida at the Sunshine State Showdown hosted by UCF in Orlando on October 6-8. The UM Team of Nicole Beckemeyer and Jakob Nordenstam won half their debates. Jakob was recognized as the fifth place individual speaker and Nicole was sixth place.
