Most Promising Students

Vrinda Gupta, a senior double majoring in Advertising Management and Psychology, has been named one of the American Advertising Federation’s Most Promising Students for 2026. Selected through a highly competitive national process, Vrinda will join top students in New York City for a week-long immersion focused on mentorship, networking, and career exploration across advertising, media, and marketing.

2026 Page/Johnson Legacy Scholars
Dr. Weiting Tao, Dr. Jeongwon Yang, and doctoral students Dongya Wang and Anya Shi, were named 2026 Page/Johnson Legacy Scholars for their project examining how top PR managers are making DEI rollback decisions. Dr. Yang was also selected for a second project on corporate social advocacy and polarization, in collaboration with faculty from Hong Kong Baptist University.

2026 American Academy of Advertising Annual Conference
Dr. Chen (Crystal) Chen received the 2026 AAA Research Fellowship Grant for her research on cognitive offloading and generative AI. Xinyu Zhao and Hui Anya Shi each received Doctoral Dissertation Grants, and Julio Martin Velasquez was awarded a Graduate Student Conference Travel Scholarship. Xinyu Zhao, Hui (Anya) Shi, Sophia Mueller-Bryson, Regina Ahn, and Dr. Crystal Chen also took home the Best Purpose Advertising Conference Paper Award for their research on virtual influencers and brand activism.

Professor Gomez was honored with the 2024 PRSA Miami’s Bill Adams’ Lifetime Achievement Award which recognizes exceptional leadership and contributions to the public relations profession and the Miami community.

Professor Duran received the School of Communication Teaching Award in 2024. Recognized for her leadership qualities and dedication, she was also nominated by her students to join Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society.

Dr. Mueller’s co-author paper “Can portraying empowered women really empower women? Development and validation of a women’s empowerment through advertising (WETA) scale” received the 2024 American Academy of Advertising Best Conference Paper Award.
