2026-28 Allbritton Journalism Institute Reporting Fellowship | Washington, DC – DUE Feb. 18

AJI is a one-of-a-kind institution in Washington: a nonprofit educational organization that trains the political journalists of the future — and partners with NOTUS to accomplish that goal.
Every September, AJI welcomes a cohort of early-career reporters to D.C. for a two-year fellowship. In addition to participating in classroom training at AJI, fellows learn on the job at NOTUS, where they work as reporters and receive an annual salary of $60,000.
AJI's Curriculum
The program begins with a four-week immersion course in the practical application of journalism skills, from ethics and newsgathering to writing and distribution. After four weeks, fellows balance ongoing classwork with hands-on experience: reporting and producing stories for NOTUS while honing their skills through seminars, weekly group critiques and staff mentorship.
The formal program runs for 18 months, after which fellows are invited to stay for an additional six months as we support them in seeking their next opportunity. By the end of the program, graduates will have the background necessary to cover the inner workings of Washington — and will be ready to take on reporting jobs at the country’s best outlets.
Who's Eligible?
We are looking for applicants of all backgrounds who want to work in journalism; who have a keen interest in policy and politics; and who believe journalism can and should play a critical role in our democracy.
Some fellows may be just out of school; others may be looking for a career transition; still others may be working journalists who are early in their careers. A passion for journalism is a prerequisite, but actual journalistic experience is not.

Social Media Content Producer/ Editor | IF/THEN | Miami Beach, FL

IG and TikTok: @jordan.shoedog
About the Role
I’m a third-generation shoemaker and own a footwear manufacturing business that produces millions of pairs of shoes a year. We have the factory, the design team, and the inventory. It’s an established and profitable business.
I recently launched @jordan.shoedog to pull back the curtain on how shoes are actually made. The proof-of-concept worked. Now, I’m building a dedicated "Shoedog Lab" in Miami Beach to take it to the next level.
We are building the definitive "Insider" footwear channel. We dissect shoes (literally, with a band saw), analyze quality, and break down market trends. We are not hypebeasts; we are technical, educational, and cinematic.
What We Want
- A "Predator" (Producer + Editor) who lives on TikTok/Reels.
- You understand that if the hook is boring, the video is dead.
- You know how to take a technical topic, make it entertaining for a mass audience and tell a story.
- You have an eye for culture and trends.
- Virality > Production Value: You know how to set up lights and mics, but you understand that a great story beats a fancy camera every time.
What We Don’t Want
- Corporate marketing videos.
- TV style broadcast editors who are slow.
- Someone who knows less about social media than I do.
What You’ll Do
- Run our Channels: You are the hands-on lead for @jordan.shoedog. You shoot, you edit, you post.
- The "Lab" Shoots: We cut shoes in half. We tear apart leather. We analyze construction. You need to make this look good (macro lenses, ASMR audio) but pace it like a TikTok.
- Retention Hacking: You aren't just editing; you are studying the performance. Why did viewers drop off at 0:03? What needs to be improved?
- Work Hard: We are aiming for high-quality, consistent output. Speed matters.
Compensation and Structure
- Role Type: Monthly Retainer (Contract).
- Pay: $3,000 - $4,000 / month (Based on skill level and speed).
- Schedule: You manage your own hours. We batch-shoot in the Miami studio 1-2 times a week. As long as the videos hit the deadline and the quality standard, I don't care when you edit them. However, we will grow with in person time.
- Growth: This is a "prove it" contract. As the channel grows, this role can evolve into a full-time salaried position with performance bonuses.
To Apply
- Your Portfolio: Must show relevant, social-first content. If your reel is full of slow corporate interviews or wedding videos, this isn't for you.
- The Tools: You are fast in Premiere Pro or DaVinci, but you aren't too proud to use CapCut.
- Aesthetically Sharp: You don't need to be a footwear designer (that's my job), but you need to have "an eye" for aesthetics.

Summer 2026 Journalism Fellowship | The Fulcrum – Apps Close Feb. 27

The Fulcrum is now accepting applications for its 2026 Fulcrum Fellowship, a 10‑week summer program designed to train the next generation of journalists in solutions‑focused reporting and narrative complexity. The fellowship will run from June 8 through August 14, 2026 and is part of The Fulcrum’s broader NextGen initiative, which aims to expand opportunities for emerging journalists across the country.
Applications Close February 27th, 2026.
“We’re seeking young journalists who want to tell richer, more human stories,” said Hugo Balta, Executive Editor of The Fulcrum. “This fellowship provides the training and mentorship they need — and reinforces that journalism should empower communities, not just report on them.”
How To Apply
Prospective candidates must submit:
- A current resume
- Examples of their work
- A cover letter explaining how the fellowship will support their growth
- One letter of recommendation
All materials should be emailed to newsroom@fulcrum.us with the subject line: Fulcrum Fellowship application.
The Fulcrum Fellowship is open to journalism undergraduate and graduate students nationwide in good standing. Fellows receive mentorship from The Fulcrum’s editorial team, opportunities to publish original reporting, and training in producing stories with accuracy, empathy, and depth. Each fellow who successfully completes the program receives a $1,000 stipend.
Applications are now open until February 27, and The Fulcrum encourages interested candidates to apply early.
The Fulcrum and the Hortencia Zavala Foundation joined forces to expand opportunities for the next generation of journalists. Together, they will grow the Fulcrum Fellowship by hosting two cohorts — one in the summer and one in the fall.
As part of a growing collaboration between The Fulcrum and the Latino News Network, stories produced by fellows will be published on both platforms. This partnership expands the reach of student reporting and ensures their work contributes to broader conversations about democracy, civic engagement, and community‑driven solutions.
