Producer-in-Residence | Any TEGNA Station Location

TEGNA’s Producer-in-Residence (PIR) program is redefining what it means to be a journalist in a live streaming age. Far from a legacy media role, today’s producers are cutting-edge storytellers, using innovative tools — including streaming and AI-powered systems — to deliver impactful journalism that meets audiences where they are. We’re hiring the top 50 journalism students graduating between December 2025 and June 2026 to join our award-winning team.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Strong writers passionate about impactful, ethical journalism in a multiplatform world
- News junkies with sharp editorial judgment
- Innovators ready to harness emerging tools like AI and streaming systems while upholding journalism values
- Courageous candidates who embrace change and use tech to elevate — not diminish — our reporting
- Future newsroom leaders eager to grow; several former PIRs have already been promoted to management roles
- Journalists active in campus media, especially TV or streaming
- Candidates who thrive under pressure and want to deliver trustworthy live coverage
This Program is Not For:
- On-camera reporters (look for “Multi-Skilled Journalist” roles instead)
- Field-only journalists — this is a newsroom-based role
- Aspiring filmmakers, marketers, influencers, or activists
- Anyone not committed to objective, ethical journalism that presents all sides of a story
Why This Role Matters:
Producing isn’t yesterday’s job. It’s the newsroom’s most future-focused role. At TEGNA, producers drive how stories come alive on streaming, digital, and social platforms — powered by the latest tools and gadgets. It’s a cutting-edge position at the center of innovation and community impact.
The Process:
We receive hundreds of applications and select a small group for interviews and timed writing assessments. Top candidates are matched with a newsroom in one of 40+ TEGNA markets.
What to Expect:
- Full-time, two-year contract (not an internship or fellowship)
- Start date: June 22, 2026 (some earlier dates available)
- Onboarding, a weeklong bootcamp with top TEGNA journalists, and hands-on newsroom training
- Ongoing support from mentors and monthly training sessions
- Career path toward promotion into permanent producer or management roles (80%+ of PIRs are promoted)

- Collaborate and adapt in a fast-paced content creation environment
Requirements:
- BA/BS in journalism or related field
- Experience producing original journalism-oriented content for campus platforms
- Strong social media skills focused on hard news
- Prior internships or news media experience preferred
- Familiarity with ENPS, CUEZ, Edius or similar programs is a plus

NYC & LA: Rookie Program (Account Coordinators) – 2026 Grads | Diffusion PR – Apps DUE Mar. 13

It’s hard out there for a college grad. That’s why Diffusion is committed to hiring the just-graduated PR pros of tomorrow, or as we like to say in the U.S., our Diffusion Rookies. This is a chance for you to gain an entry-level position with us as a Campaign Coordinator – it’s not an internship or temporary training role, but a full-time position with us and the chance to jump right into the public relations industry with our consumer, lifestyle and technology clients.
As a Diffusion Rookie, you’ll be learning the ins and outs of agency life in an open and supportive environment, where you can be a critical part of our team right from the start. It’s specifically designed to provide recent grads with the right mix of training and entry-level experience needed to be successful in the fast-paced industry of public relations.
We’re not one of those agencies looking for an entry-level team member to make media lists and do admin all day. Our Campaign Coordinators jump right into the daily grind – from learning how to build relationships with media the right way, participating in creative campaigns, client communication, running meetings and showing off their writing skills. Our model of work emphasizes clear deliverables for each client you work on, so every team member is just as valuable as the next.
Diffusion believes in collaboration, but also flexibility, which is why we have a permanent hybrid work week with days in and out of the office. We also offer 25 days of vacation, and close early every Friday year-round.
The Interview Process:
We only want the best and that means our application process is nothing if not rigorous – comprised of three interview stages, the application, the virtual assessment and the final interview. The lucky few who make it to the end of the process will be hired as full-time Campaign Coordinators and have the opportunity to work across our amazing portfolio of clients.
Step 1 – Download and complete the 2026 Rookie Program application and return it along with your resume to rookie@diffusionpr.com.
Applications will be evaluated on an ongoing basis and the deadline for all applications is 6:00PM on Friday, March 13, 2026.
Step 2 – Those chosen from the initial application review will be asked to complete a brief virtual assessment and interview in the weeks following their application submission.
Step 3 – Those chosen to move on will participate in a virtual or in-person interview. You must be available for this interview in order to proceed in the process.
Think you have what it takes? Above all else, a Diffusion rookie is:
- A news junkie who works hard every day to share their client’s stories with the media
- Chasing that creative spark to help their clients stand out in a competitive landscape
- Not afraid of getting into a heated debate over the perfect playlist
- Excited to pull off the latest creative activation or stunt
- Passionately defending their favorite news program to all their friends and family
- Obsessed with staying ahead of the buzziest stories and viral content
- Not afraid to jump into a challenge, like our in-depth interview process
If this sounds like you, we look forward to receiving your application!
