On March 3-4, The UM Debate Team traveled to Clemson, South Carolina to compete in the Fourth Annual Atlantic Coast Conference Debate Championship Tournament. In each of the first three years of the tournament, UM advanced into the finals but settled for second place. This was finally the Hurricane’s year, however, as the UM Debate team dominated their competition. The UM team of Artem Sviridov and Zach Homeijer completed a perfect performance to emerge as the 2018 ACC Debate Champion.
A total of five faculty members spread across three departments were recently announced as the 2017 – 2018 recipients of the Creative Activity and Research Grants. The funding supports work that will result in clear and prominent scholarly and/or creative accomplishments that support the enhanced reputation of the School of Communication.
University of Miami School of Communication is hosting the 68th Annual Student Media Awards on May 2.
“The Student Media Awards are a chance to recognize students for all their hard work throughout the academic year,” said Sam Terilli, department chair for the Department of Journalism and Media Management and associate professor.
Distraction magazine and its website, distractionmagazine.com, have both been announced as Pacemaker finalists.
Presented annually by the Associated Collegiate Press, the Pacemaker awards recognize collegiate publications for their content, design, photography, and graphics.
The stakes were high in both categories; the judges narrowed down 96 magazines to 22 finalists, and 137 online entries to 30 finalists.
