Echoing Josephine Baker: Madame Satã

Madame Satã is a fictionalized portrait of folk hero, João Francisco dos Santos (1900–1976). Santos was a drag performer and capoeirista who frequented the bohemian underground of early twentieth-century Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This screening will be followed by a conversation with Jordan Rogers, a Ph.D. student and UGrow Communications Fellow in the English Department, College of Arts and Sciences, at the University of Miami.
