I was always interested in the business side of media and the Media Management major was a great way introduction. Most people comment about how what they study in college has nothing to do with what they eventually end up doing, but I would argue that my studies helped me immensely when entering the work force. I still have fond memories of my Media Research class with Dr. Dupagne and the Programming class with Dr. Shapiro.
Kate Barnett graduated in 2008 with a double-major in media management and economics. She is vice president of digital client solutions at Nielsen and is responsible for strategy and pricing for third party platforms, programmatic TV, and the use of traditional TV data in the digital marketplace. She is also spearheading the Platform Program, created to provide efficiency and cost savings to advertisers, agencies, and publishers who use Nielsen’s measurement for their digital campaign reporting.
Barnett started her career at Nielsen as an administrative assistant. After a year in that role, she transitioned to a sales role within the organization, where she worked for three years with Academic Clients, News Clippers, Media Auditors, and Google. In July 2013, she moved over to the Digital Client Service team to serve as the TV data expert for digital clients.
Barnet’s awards and recognitions include Recipient of the Outstanding Achievement for the US Media Business – Digital in 2014; Selected as one of 30 people in North America to attend the North America Leadership Forum; 2015 Cynopsis Rising Star Award Recipient
