Ph.D. Student
Julio Martin Velasquez is an international scholar born and raised in the South American country of Perú. Throughout his undergraduate and graduate education, he has studied at numerous universities across the Globe such as the Private University of Tacna(Perú), Autonomous University of Asuncion(Paraguay), Fundación Botín(Spain), Fundacao Getulio Vargas(Brazil) and visited prestigious universities like Brown, Harvard, Universidad de Salamanca, Universidad de los Andes, TPA(Chile), etc.
As a gay, Hispanic, immigrant, Catholic, and first-generation college student, he finds it impossible to overlook any form of discrimination or social injustice and that is the reason why his research interests very often intersect with his overlapping social identities. He plans on expanding scholarly work to areas such as the increased analog allure and digital fatigue (new media consumption habits), audience economics, gender and DEI issues in integrated marketing communications, transformative advertising, cross-cultural representation, and the impact of emerging media in newborns, infants, and teenagers.
Before coming to the University of Miami, Julio earned his Master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University – Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications.
Along with having taught for more than 4 years in his home country, Julio counts with more than 8 years of professional experience in the field of marketing, and marketing communications, yet lately his work has been focused on strategic analytics and advertising strategies. His industry experience encompasses work from local government agencies to Fortune 500 companies like Walmart, Anheuser-Busch International (Bud Light, Bud Weiser, Stella Artois), Jack Daniel´s International, Go RVing, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Perú Camaras, The European Commission, etc.
His goal upon graduation is to seek a position as an associate professor, in a role that permits him to work closely with industry leaders, brands, agencies, and global companies in research projects that aid in reshaping society through the lens of media, advertising and strategic analytics. In his crystal-clear vision, he wants to lead renowned higher education institutions to their greatest level as he understands that education is the greatest weapon to change the world and a humble path of community service.
