The Cinema and Interactive Media Department at the University of Miami School of Communication includes majors in Motion Pictures and Interactive Media.

The Cinema and Interactive Media Department offers a complete curricular experience in critical understanding and effective creation of contemporary moving image media and interactive design. Our programs are designed to prepare a new generation of innovators, storytellers and leaders in the field of cinema, transmedia and interaction design with a mission to explore the creative uses of narrative, documentary, technology, design and human behavior to entertain, impact, augment, and influence how people communicate.

image The University of Miami Department of Cinema and Interactive Media 17th annual CANES FILM FESTIVAL (May 2-3-4) is a competitive festival open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Motion Pictures Program at UM. The films are juried by a panel of professionals from the film and television industry. Previous judges have included Barry Waldman, David Nutter, Michael Robin, Juan Carlos Coto, Jeff Respress, Charles Vignola, Erin Moyer, David Issacs and many others.

Our only goal is to showcase our student’s amazing talent, hard work and accomplishments. Prepare yourself for the three days of student films, panels, and parties that celebrate the art of film-making - UM-style!

image A student-run organization comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from the School of Communication's Motion Picture program and the University at large. The primary mission is to promote film production at both at the university and area level. The orgainization annually sponsors workshops, seminars, special film screenings, and a visiting filmmaker program. Sponsors the 'Canes Film Festival, a bi-annual showcase of student-produced work.
