Ruoyu Sun

Ph.D. Student

Ruoyu Sun is a doctoral candidate at the University of Miami’s School of Communication. Her research interests lie in the intersection of public relations, social media, and social change. She is particularly interested in understanding how corporate communication (e.g., CSR communication and corporate social advocacy) on social media can be managed to establish corporate identity, cultivate relationships with the public, and facilitate positive social change.

Her research has been published in journals such as Public Relations Review, Science Communication, Telematics and Informatics, International Journal of Business Communication, and Journal of Marketing Communications. She has also presented her works in leading communication conferences such as AEJMC, ICA, and IPRRC and won several conference paper awards such as Boston University Award for the Top Paper about Public Relations and the Social Emerging Media.

As an independent course instructor, Ruoyu has taught various undergraduate courses classes at UM, including Statistical Reasoning for Strategic Communication, Public Relations Strategy Development, and Public Relations Research.

Before coming to UM, she earned her master’s degree concentrating in Public Relations from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. Her master thesis has won the Makovsky Best Master’s Thesis of the Year Award from the Institute for Public Relations.

Ruoyu enjoys cooking, watching TV shows and movies, and outdoor activities such as cycling and hiking in her spare time.
