Julia Baah-Hanson Asamoa

My name is Julia Baah-Hanson Asamoa, a first year Ph.D. student at the School of Communication. I come from Mamfe, in the Eastern region of Ghana. My research interests span environmental communication including activism, climate change communication, and inclusive environmental policy for marginalized communities, as well as health communication with a focus on digital health technologies and environmental health issues. Broadly, my work explores strategic tools to advance global climate advocacy and support more culturally inclusive medical communication.

Before joining the University of Miami, I earned a Master’s degree in International/Intercultural Communication at Bowling Green State University, where my thesis examined Intercultural Science Communication and Citizen Advocacy against Galamsey in Ghana. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career as a professor in communication or a researcher in an environmental, health, or digital technology-based organization. Outside of my academic work, I enjoy cooking and fitness.
