Jeongwon (Jeong) Yang (Ph.D. Syracuse University) is an assistant professor in the Department of Strategic Communication, University of Miami. Her research interests lie in what roles new media technologies play in facilitating the persuasion process. Her specializations include CSR, crisis communication, and online mis/disinformation. She primarily explored individuals’ information behaviors and reactions toward message framing, crisis strategies, and communicator characteristics including those of (social media & virtual) influencers, VTubers, and AI. She is currently exploring how communicators, aided by new technologies, can enhance authenticity in diverse social causes such as climate change, LGBTQ+ advocacy, disability inclusion, and health messaging. Her research has been published in Computers in Human Behavior, Journal of Advertising, Public Relations Review, Internet Research, Journal of Interactive Advertising, Journal of Risk Research, and International Journal of Strategic Communication.
She holds a B.A. in media studies with honors from University of California at Berkeley. She graduated from a dual-degree master program in global media and communication, attaining M.Sc. from London School of Economics and M.A. from USC Annenberg School of Communication. She received Ph.D. in Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University.
