The Cosford Cinema is proud to present a screening series of the top 10 films of the 2022 Sight & Sound Top 100 Poll: The Greatest Films of All Time.

Launched in 1952 and conducted every 10 years since, the poll includes filmmakers, critics, and journalists from around the world. The results are published in “Sight & Sound,” a monthly film magazine published by the British Film Institute.

“IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE” | YEAR: 2000 | DIRECTOR: Wong Kar Wai | 4K DCP | RUNNING TIME: 98 minutes | RATED: PG (for adult themes)

Hong Kong, 1962: Chow Mo-Wan (Tony Leung Chiu Wai) and Su Li-Zhen (Maggie Cheung Man Yuk) move into neighboring apartments on the same day. Their encounters are formal and polite—until a discovery about their spouses creates an intimate bond between them.

At once delicately mannered and visually extravagant, Wong Kar Wai’s “In the Mood for Love” is a masterful evocation of romantic longing and fleeting moments. With its aching soundtrack and exquisitely abstract cinematography by Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping Bing, this film has been a major stylistic influence on the past two decades of cinema, and is a milestone in Wong’s redoubtable career.

“In the Mood for Love” took fifth place in the Sight & Sound poll. Admission is $5. Students with Cane card use code UMSTUDENT at checkout for free admission.
