CRAFT YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH

Who Am I?

Brief, audience-tailored self-introduction.

  • Major, degree program, or area of study
  • Graduation year (if relevant)
  • Co-curriculars or involvement (clubs, leadership, etc.)
  • Shared connections (UM SoC, alumni, department, hometown, etc.)
  • One sentence summary: “I’m a [year] [major] at the University of Miami, involved in [X], and I specialize in [Y].”

What I Do

Show your value in a clear, relevant way.

  • Skills: Highlight 1–2 key transferable skills (e.g., writing, project management, video editing)

  • Experience: Mention a relevant internship, job, or academic project
  • Passion/Values: What drives your interest in the field (e.g., storytelling, ethical communication, design for social impact)
  • One sentence summary: “I bring [skill] from my experience at [place/class], and I’m passionate about [value/goal].”

What’s My Ask?

Engage the other person & follow up.

  • Ask: “What do you spend most of your time at work doing?” or “What advice would you give someone entering the field?”

  • End with: “I’d love to stay in touch. Can I connect with you on LinkedIn?”
  • Follow up within 24–48 hours with a short thank-you note or message
  • One sentence summary: I’m eager to connect, learn from your experience, and continue this conversation through email or LinkedIn.
