Shape the Future of News
The Broadcast Journalism, B.S.C. program prepares students for careers in digital news gathering, analysis, and reporting. Through practical experience through production classes and various student-produced programs on UMTV, students consistently win national and regional awards for their work, all while gaining the skills needed for personal and professional success, for participating in the program. No prior study of or experience in journalism is required to be eligible for the program.

Immersive Experiences with UMTV
Variety of Shows
UMTV produces a variety of programming, including a weekly live newscast and sports show, a late night comedy program, an entertainment show and a Spanish-language program. Learn more here.
On-Camera or Off
Whether on camera or behind the scenes, UMTV gives students the chance to hone their skills in various broadcast roles including directing, producing (executive, video, segment), graphics, audio, cameras, and on-air reporting.

Each year UMTV shows are recognized nationally by the College Television Foundation, Broadcast Education Association, Society of Professional Journalists, and the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists.
Direct Mentorship
Faculty advisors for each UMTV show provide crucial input and mentorship, ensuring quality and professional growth for students.
Professional Associations and Chapters
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) chapter is committed to promoting the recognition and professional growth of Hispanic students pursuing careers in journalism. Through events, educational programs and networking opportunities, the chapter supports members in their journey to becoming influential voices in the media industry.
The University of Miami chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) fosters a community of future Black journalists and media professionals. The chapter offers events and networking opportunities, and promotes diversity, excellence, and leadership in journalism.
The University of Miami chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of ethical journalism. Through events, professional development, and educational initiatives, SPJ inspires and supports the next generation of journalists.
