General Requirements
The New York Shanken Experience
The School of Communication will select 10-12 junior or senior undergraduate and/or graduate students who are interested in a unique and immersive experience that will contribute to their personal and professional development in the communications field.
Students will travel to New York City during Spring Break to view several popular industries and network with New York-based University of Miami alumni to further expand their future growth and career opportunities.
Timeline
- Applications Open – January 13
- Applications Close – January 27th
- Interviews held – Jan. 30th – Feb. 4th
Requirements
- Must be a Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student of the School of Communication
- Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher

Semester in Los Angeles
The School of Communication Los Angeles Program provides selected seniors and junior students from the School of Communication at the University of Miami the opportunity to gain professional experience in their chosen fields through a 14-week internship while taking industry-related courses. The program allows students to experience and integrate themselves into the Los Angeles film and television industry while providing immersion into the culture of the city.
