General Computer Lab
Communication International Building Room 1051
Equipped with dozens of Apple iMac computers running both OS X and Windows 10, the general lab is open for use to Communication students and UM students taking Communication courses. Collaboration space is also available in the lab for students who wish to use their personal laptops or meet with other students to work on projects.
Motion Pictures Editing Lab
Wolfson Communication Building Room 1024
The Motion Picture Editing Lab is used by students studying Motion Pictures and Interactive Media. The editing stations are equipped with top-of-the-line iMacs with editing software including Adobe Premiere, Autodesk Smoke, and Autodesk Maya. A virtual reality lab is also available in this space where students interact and develop applications for the Oculus Rift using cutting-edge gaming PCs.
Digital Editing Suites
Wolfson Communication Building 1030 Suite
Each editing suite is equipped with 2 iMacs for editing broadcast material using programs such as AVID Media Composer and Adobe Creative Cloud. Students involved with UMTV or enrolled in television production classes have the ability to create their video packages using the same tools people in the industry use. Much of the creative magic that goes into producing content for UMTV’s award-winning shows happens in these suites.
Post Production Suites
Communication International Building 1053 Suite
Motion Pictures students put the finishing touches on their works of art in the post-production suites. Details, such as color correction, are important for professional-looking video and students have access to industry-standard tools such as Davinci Resolve and Adobe SpeedGrade to aid them in this process. The suites are also equipped with newly-upgraded Avid ProTools HD stations for professional-level sound editing.
Audio Lab
Communication International Building Room 1053-H
The audio lab is where students learn the art of sound engineering from award-winning faculty who have years of industry experience. Students enrolled in sound courses get hands-on experience with Avid ProTools HD stations to take their post-productions skills to the next level. To bring their projects to life, students have access to multiple sound effects libraries that they can use to augment their videos and films.
The UX Lab
Wolfson Communication Building 1022 Suite
The User Experience (UX) Lab is a research facility that supports interdisciplinary research on understanding how people use information systems. Its main function is to inform web, mobile, gaming, and software interface design based on human attitudes, emotions, and performance data. A variety of research methodologies are used to collect and analyze findings, including focus groups, ethnography, participatory design, heuristic and expert reviews, usability testing, eye tracking, and other physiological measures.

Monday- Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Saturday: 11:00 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Sunday: 1:00 p.m. - 9 p.m.
