The UM Debate Team completed an outstanding and successful competitive year competing in Policy Debate ranked among the top university debate teams in the country by all three policy debate organizations. Rankings are determined by points accumulated through tournament performances throughout the year. Each organization uses a different formula in determining their sweepstakes award winners.
The Wine Spectator Foundation will award up to $50,000 to School of Communication undergraduate and graduate students for projects about wine, food, restaurants, travel or tourism.
David Silverman and Spencer George are the 2014 Junior Varsity Southeast Debate Champions. Debating at Emory University on February 21 to23, Spencer and David compiled a perfect 6-0 record, advancing into finals where they won a 3-0 decision to defeat ACC rivals Wake Forest and claim the championship. Also competing and contributing to the UM success were Joe Karam and Russ Wilde, Adrianne Babun-Chavaria and Anna Shah, and Nabiha Aziz and Anna Ivanova.
The Columbia Scholastic Press Association just announced the winners from the yearbook and digital media categories of its 31st Gold Circle Awards program. This year, CSPA received 4,279 entries produced by students at colleges, universities and secondary schools throughout the United States.
