Global Frontiers Series: “Together”

Loading Events

Join us for a new breakthrough film series at the Cosford Cinema focusing on current world issues such as migration and social inclusion, peace and security, ageing populations, democracy, climate change and artificial intelligence.

The series is intended to bring two types of audiences together: Movie lovers and people who care about current events.

Each screening will be preceded by a wide-ranging, multi-media conversation between Bill Cosford Cinema manager, Rene Rodriguez, and a special guest.

The series launches on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m. with “Together” (2021), a comedy-drama starring James McAvoy and Sharon Horgan as a married couple forced to re-evaluate their relationship while trapped inside their London apartment during the Covid-19 lockdown. The film is co-directed by Oscar-nominee Stephen Daldry (“Billy Elliot,” “The Hours,” “The Reader”).

The screening will be preceded by a 40-minute discussion between Rodriguez and Karin Wilkins, dean of the School of Communication at the University of Miami, touching on the unintended long-term social and physical distance after the Covid-19 pandemic, including the toll on human relationships and the mental and physical consequences of restriction of movement. The discussion will include clips from other movies exploring similar subject matter.

Admission is free, but advance registration is required at the link. Watch this video for more information, https://vimeo.com/765456871.
