Bring your floaties this Sunday, Sept. 3, for a special screening of Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the UC Pool. The film will be projected on 35mm and is paired with a drag queen performance from Miss Toto and Persephone Von Lips.
University of Miami School of Communication is hosting a screening of the social documentary Liberty Square: Power, History, and Race in Miami, on Tuesday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. The screening takes place during Associate Professor Sigman Splichal’s Seminar in News Ethics and Problems class. It will be followed by a Q&A panel featuring the producer of the film, alumnus Dr. Moses Shumow, Ph.D.
Ayiti Images, a traveling Florida film series, ends its successful 2014-2015 run with a double-feature screening about the Haitian experience. The concept of Ayiti Images birthed from a burning desire to educate and project an authentic voice that depicts the Haitian experience from a humanistic perspective through the use of film and discussion. The screenings will be held at six locations beginning with the University of Miami at 6:30 p.m.
Salvation Army, the rapturous debut feature from Moroccan writer Abdellah Taïa will premiere at the Cosford Cinema on Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. followed with a special Q&A with the filmmaker and scholars. The film offers a charged, semi-autobiographical tale about a young graduate who must navigate the sexual, racial, and political intrigue surrounding his arrival in Geneva.
