• Jon Landau, described by SoC professor Dr. John Soliday as "the Edison of film technology," will be at the Cosford Cinema on Monday, Jan. 26, 1-3 p.m. The master's class will be moderated by Dr. Soliday and will include a Q&A session, film clips and advice from the producer of the two biggest film attractions in history, "Titanic" and "Avatar." This event is open to all University of Miami students.

  • Before enrolling in the MFA film program at the School of Communication a year ago, Luis Jose Galvis Diaz studied journalism in Bucaramanga, Colombia, and worked as a television producer, a radio commentator and a film critic. He also taught history of cinema at the Universidad Autonoma de Bucaramanga.

    “I love movies,” Galvis said recently, “but more than anything, I am a storyteller. I came to film by way of writing.”

  • “The thrill of a lifetime” — that’s how Noah DeBonis described seeing his short film, Posthumous, screened last week at the Paramount Theatre in Hollywood, California at the 17th Annual Canes Film Showcase. DeBonis and 15 other School of Communication film students showed seven films at the event, toured studios and got a master class from professionals in the entertainment industry during their three-day trip to Los Angeles.

  • Salvation Army, the rapturous debut feature from Moroccan writer Abdellah Taïa will premiere at the Cosford Cinema on Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. followed with a special  Q&A with the filmmaker and scholars. The film offers a charged, semi-autobiographical tale about a young graduate who must navigate the sexual, racial, and political intrigue surrounding his arrival in Geneva.
