Founded in 2012 by a volunteer group of local activists as a 501c4 non-profit community grassroots organization, Miami Beach United (MBU) was born of a desire to improve the quality of life for Miami Beach residents. We are still 100% volunteer-run, and we welcome residents from all parts of Miami Beach to become involved in the organization..

MBU is seeking a team of dedicated college students, majoring in communications, looking to enhance their resumes and portfolios with solid work experience.

This would be for the duration of one semester — January – May, 2023.  Students working well with our organization are welcome to continue on.

Receiving College Credits for this internship would be determined by your student advisor.

These are non-paying positions as this organization is 100% run by volunteers.

Interns would be overseen by a Public Relations professional, who is a volunteer at MBU, as well as other MBU members.

Goals:

  • Inform Miami Beach Commissioners and Miami Beach (MB) residents as to the opinions of MBU.
  • To raise awareness of MBU’s mission, among MB residents
  • Increase resident participation in MBU activities.
  • Increase resident feedback to MBU.

Duties:

Primaryjob would to be to assist in the writing and dissemination of newsletters (several each month as needed) to the Constant Contact email list as well as send resolutions to MB Commissioners monthly.

To do the above, a smart volunteer(s) will need to attend monthly MBU Friday evening Board meetings to understand the issues at hand.

There is a need to commit to work one weekend a month in order to send resolutions to commissioners on Monday, prior to Commission meetings, and send out resolutions in a newsletter to our proprietary Constant Contact email list. Included in the newsletters are the reasons why MBU takes the positions for each of the resolutions.

To summarize:

  • Write and disseminate newsletters, press releases, and pitch letters, as needed
  • Post all newsletters and releases to MBU Facebook page and to other relevant community group pages.
  • Utilize Constant Contact for communications, update lists
  • Monitor Constant Contact member & non-member lists.
  • Attend Marketing Committee meetings.
  • Secure location for Marketing Committee meetings and send out Google calendar (or email) invites and reminder emails for those meetings.

Secondary is various kinds of outreach such as disseminating membership solicitation letters and disseminating invitations for forums and events as well as:

  • Reach out to the media (with pitch letters) regarding important issues that MBU is tackling that should be covered by the press.
  • Update the MBU website, as necessary.
  • Attend Miami Beach public meetings at City Hall, when necessary.
  • Manage social media posts/post relevant information.
  • Monitor page and community group pages for comments/opportunities to engage positively and share information.
  • Produce informational brochures/flyers.
  • Set up a MBU table at pertinent local events to disseminate information and discuss the organization’s mission with locals.
