The Mark of Excellence awards honor the best journalism students. Awarded by the Society of Professional Journalists, students in print, radio, television and online collegiate journalism are recognized.
Flourish Klink is a writer, producer and self-proclaimed fangirl who is now working as a transmedia producer and writer for the Hulu original series “East Los High.” On Thursday, she spoke with students at the School of Communication about her work in the transmedia field, which she described as storytelling “across multiple delivery channels” where, ideally, “each medium makes its own unique contribution to the unfolding of the story.”

James Hoffman, A.B. ’80, has made a $50,000 pledge that will create the James Hoffman Family Endowed Speaker Series in the School of Communication at the University of Miami. The gift will be used to fund an annual lecture on the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Noted international journalist and editor Ilene Prusher spent nearly two decades covering wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Arab-Israeli conflicts, worked with Steven Sotloff and crossed paths with Daniel Pearl in Afghanistan.
"Journalists have stopped being collateral damage in conflicts, and now have targets painted on their backs,” Prusher said.
University of Miami President Donna E. Shalala and Blake James, director of athletics, highlight the guests for the debut show of CaneTalk Live at the Rat, to take place on Thursday, November 6 from 1 to 2 p.m.
