On November 7, Maria Sanchez, Miami-based head of Prime Video Direct Latin America at Amazon, spoke about her 25-year career in the television distribution industry with members of the Media Management Association. Growing up in Spain, Sanchez always knew that her calling was to work in the entertainment business.
The UM Debate team hosted and moderated a UChat event in Spanish on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 on a topic that is close to the members of the team and many students on campus. The Uchat titled “Practicas Ilegales de Gobiernos Latinoamericanos” which translates to “Illegal Practices of Latin American governments” initiated a discourse on the corruption of Latin America and the source of why so many people flee these countries.
When asked what the goal of Off the Wire is, a resounding response from the three executive producers, junior Jeremy Erdheim, seniors Danny LaRose and Alberto Lopez, as well as head writer, sophomore Peter Gurl, almost knocks me off my chair: “to make people laugh!”
“Hopefully!” Erdheim adds, laughing.
When Amber Robertson, B.S.C. ’12, graduated from the University of Miami, she had no idea what she wanted to do or who she wanted to be. The only thing she did know was that she wanted to leave her hometown of Miami behind to find opportunity and adventure. Seven years, two cities, and eight job titles later, Robertson visited UM last week to give career advice to anxious undergrads.
