Cinephiles, film scholars, and filmmakers are coming together at University of Miami School of Communication for the Bogart Film Noir Competition & Student Showcase on Friday, November 11, and Tuesday, November 15.

The event brings together an eclectic mix of South Florida filmmakers for workshops, screenings, and a student short film competition.

All events are free and open to the public.

Friday, November 11

Workshop with Julian Yuri Rodriguez
10 a.m. – 12 p.m., University of Miami School of Communication, CIB 3055
Be inspired to write, produce, and sell a successful mini-web series in this workshop by MTV’s No Seasons creator and Miami Borscht Corps’ Julian Yuri Rodriguez. 

Short Film Showcase
1-6 p.m., University of Miami Bill Cosford Cinema
Watch student short films in the classic noir, neo-noir, and dark comedy genres from around the country and world competing for this year’s prizes.

Awards Party with Richard Bogart
6-9 p.m., University of Miami School of Communication, Courtyard
Join filmmakers, students, and film fans for the Casablanca-themed awards party co-hosted by Bogie and Bacall’s grandson and University of Miami alumnus Richard Bogart.

Tuesday, November 15

Billy Corben Screens Cocaine Cowboys
6-9 p.m., University of Miami Bill Cosford Cinema
Meet legendary Rakontur filmmaker Billy Corben for a 10th anniversary screening of his Cocaine Cowboys documentary, followed by Q&A moderated by Filmgate Miami’s Diliana Alexander.
