About

The Dow Jones News Fund internship program has a legacy of excellence dating back to 1960. Each year DJNF arranges paid internships for nearly 100 college students across the country and provides them with advanced hands-on training, industry mentors and a robust peer and alumni network to tap into.

The News Fund draws from a deep pool of talented students who are eager to launch journalism careers. We will work with your team to find top talent that fits your newsroom needs. Interns are carefully matched and arrive ready to work on Day One. Our interns are highly motivated, energetic, technologically savvy and eager to use their talents to expand their horizons.

The News Fund has long been committed to diversity and equal opportunity. In keeping with those values, the 2025 internship class was 65% students of color and more than 63% women. The News Fund recruits from public and private universities, including historically Black colleges and Hispanic-serving institutions, as well as major industry events to find a broad pool of talented interns who reflect America’s diversity.

The Role

Before reporting to work, the interns attend a 7- to 10-day training program that readies them for the demands of the job. Media partners select which specialized training program their interns attend. (In the applicationdue November 5, you are asked to indicate which training programs/internship positions interest you)

  • Audience Engagement: Interns learn the art of social media and audience development at every step of the process. This includes analytics, search engine optimization, graphic design, photo editing, AP Style and news curation.
  • Business Reporting: Interns spend a week learning to cover all sectors, including stocks, bonds, labor relations, small business, personal finance and major companies while honing their writing and reporting skills.
  • Data Journalism: Interns are trained to work with spreadsheets, databases, Freedom of Information Act requests, software and apps to unlock stories.
  • Digital Media: Interns are trained in a wide variety of skills: video and audio editing, photography, social media engagement, web analytics and data visualization.
  • Multiplatform Editing: Through rigorous training, editing interns master numerous aspects of publishing content, including news judgment, headline writing, search engine optimization and page design.
