SUMMARY:Global Frontiers Screening Series: 'A Life On Our Planet'
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our third installment in a new breakthrough monthly film series at the Cosford Cinema focusing on current world issues such as migration and social inclusion\, peace and security\, aging populations\, democracy\, climate change\, and artificial intelligence. \nEach screening will be preceded by a wide-ranging\, multi-media conversation between Bill Cosford Cinema manager Rene Rodriguez and a special guest. \nThe series continues on Saturday\, Feb. 4\, at 2 p.m.\, with “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet” (2020)\, a visually stunning but terrifying documentary about the crises that threaten the survival of Earth: deforestation\, global warming\, pollution\, and other issues plaguing our planet. \nThe 97-year-old Sir David Frederick Attenborough\, brother of the Oscar-winning director Richard Attenborough\, has devoted much of his adult life exploring the natural wonders of our planet and advocating for ecological causes such as reducing meat consumption and switching to renewable energy. \nHe has earned 32 honorary degrees from British universities. At least 20 species of plants and arthropods are named after him. In 2022\, he was recognized as a Champion of the Earth by the United Nations Environment Program. \nThe screening will be preceded by a 20-minute discussion between Rodriguez and Jennifer Jacquet\, visiting professor of global climate change at the University of Miami. The conversation will focus on anthropogenic climate change\, its accompanying psychological barriers and the need for social approval in generating cooperation. The discussion will include clips from other movies exploring similar subject matter. \nAdmission is free but registration is required at link.
