Edward Julbe, professor and faculty adviser to SportsDesk, is the recipient of the 2015 Robert and Christine Staub Faculty Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Effective Teaching at the University of Miami School of Communication. The Staub Faculty Excellence Award, an endowed gift from UM alumnus Robert Staub, B.B.A.’56, and his wife, Christine, recognizes a School of Communication faculty member for effectiveness in teaching, advising, mentoring, and service roles in and outside the classroom. Students and alumni nominate a deserving professor and a school committee selects the recipient.

“It was truly unexpected to be recognized with this award, and I am honored and humbled. I am passionate about teaching and enjoy working with our dedicated students to help them reach their full potential. Knowing that this award stems from my colleagues and the students I’ve been fortunate enough to interact with here at the SoC, makes it that much more meaningful. It’s an honor,” says Julbe.

Alumna Lauren Behar, a 2015 graduate of the School of Communication, credits Julbe for her professional success.

“Professor Julbe is one of the greatest professors I’ve had, if not the greatest. He taught me everything I know and, without him, I wouldn’t be as successful as I am today. He guided me throughout my years at UM and now I’m employed by NBCUniversal. Although he is considered to be a tough professor, he has first-hand knowledge like no other. I could not imagine my time at UM without him,” says Behar.

Julbe joined the School of Communication in the spring of 2008, teaching courses in television production and broadcasting for the Department of Journalism and Media Management. His experience in television and video production spans more than a decade, with his most recent position as the senior videographer/editor for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, where he received an Emmy nomination and Telly Award for his productions.

Julbe received $2,500 as part of the award, and will be named on a permanent plaque in the School’s reception lobby.
