For the first time in University of Miami history, two student packages have won the Best Of award from the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts. The festival is an “international exhibition of award-winning faculty and student works,” according to the BEA website. Sophomore David Perez and freshman Danyel De Villiers won Best Of in the Television Sports Story/Feature category.
UMTV received three first place awards from the National Broadcasting Society’s honor society Alpha Epsilon Rho, three first place Region 3 Mark of Excellence awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, and two second place awards from the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters.

Starting this fall, viewers throughout Coral Gables will see something very different when they tune in to the University of Miami School of Communication’s award-winning UMTV cable channel. With more than $1 million in new high-end cameras, equipment and software in its studios, the station will soon broadcast shows and newscasts in full 1080p high-definition.
