We are so pleased to see all you ‘Canes enthusiastic for a great spring semester! If you are just joining the SoC, welcome to the family! If you are returning from the winter break, it’s great to have you back!

Study Reporting in Jerusalem this Summer

ieiMedia’s Jerusalem program provides an opportunity for students to earn three credits through the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and more importantly, to get a taste of working as a foreign correspondent in one of the most interesting, colorful and newsy cities in the world. The program costs $4,995 + airfare (Includes: Tuition, housing, instruction, health insurance, farewell dinner and special programs, activities and cultural events.) Volunteer and get a free day pass to Miami Boat Show

Sea Tow Foundation, a national nonprofit charity, is asking for volunteers to help fit children with loaner life jackets when they walk on the docks at the Miami Boat Show on February 17-20. Volunteers receive a free pass to the boat show on the day their shift; and are welcome to explore the show before or after their shift. Shifts are just two hours.

FilmGate Interactive Media Festival

 FilmGate Interactive Media Festival is the first conference in the USA to focus on interactive and immersive storytelling. Every February, they engage and connect new audiences with local and international groundbreaking artists, who use new technology to tell innovative stories via interactive media screenings, immersive exhibits, creative installations, new tech workshops, film and acting panels, networking happy hours, and live entertainment. This year the Festival is proud to take place at the University of Miami School of Communication on February 3-5, 2017.

Our Interactive Media students will be showcasing their work at the annual Tech Playground, a festival program that provides hands on experience for the public to interact with new and exciting creative technology.


Google Seminar Series on Gender & Racial Gaps In Film & Tech

This is the second annual seminar from Google, taking place at this year’s Miami Film Festival on March 4-5. The series will consist of discussions with five women filmmakers and producers about solutions for gender and racial bias in the film and technology world. New York Festivals would like to invite all young creative talent from the age of 18 – 27 to take part in Torch Awards, a unique competition that explores a creative challenge each year and offers mentor training on how to pitch their ideas. This year’s Integrated-Mixed Media Challenge asks competitors to review a marketing opportunity to assist Today, I’m Brave. It is free to enter. Deadline: February 17, 2017.


Witnessing Change Video Competition

Students document social and financial impacts already happening in their communities through interviewing impacted individuals and creating two-minute personal vignettes. Prizes are $250 and $500. Winners also have the possibility of receiving national recognition for their work through environmental organizations and universities working with the Climate Cost Project through their new and social media platforms. Boynton Beach Short Film Festival

The BBSFF prides itself in the facilitation and support of professional and student short-form motion pictures artistry. The festival is open to all Florida professional film-makers and college, high school, and middle school student film-makers. Winners eligible for awards up to $500. David L. Boren Scholarship/Fellowship

Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest

Humanity in Action Fellowship
