At 24, School of Communication graduate Jeff Regan spends a lot of times on airplanes.
“I travel 50 percent of the time,” he said. “I was just in London working on parties and backstage for the Jay Z concert. It’s great to see different parts of the world and meet so many people.”
Regan is an account manager for Pask Productions, responsible for managing day-to-day contacts and handling operations for his clients, including events and what he calls ‘brand involvement,’ which means anything related to enhancing the clients’ brand. He is based in Miami, and some of his clients include Bombay Sapphire, which sponsors the Sony Open tennis tournaments, and Oxley Gin.
Associate Professor Terry Bloom met Regan as a freshman, when he began working for the School of Communications television channel, UMTV. He eventually became a producer for one of the channel’s programs.
“He took all the opportunities that were available to him while he was here,” said Bloom, who is also the chair of the Department of Journalism and Media Management. “Beyond that, he created opportunities because he started off with an internship [with Pask] and turned that into a job. He made things happen for himself.”
Upon his graduation in May 2011, Regan was immediately hired at Pask Productions, a full service event and branding company. With a double major in media management and sports administration, becoming an account manager wasn’t the job Regan initially planned for himself.
“I originally wanted to produce for television,” he said. His mother was a general manager for the television station WRIC in Richmond, Va. “I liked the idea of putting myself in the newsroom. It wasn’t until I started internships that I found that I enjoyed creating stuff for people to enjoy.”
In addition to Pask, some of these internships included working as a promotions intern for ESPN Radio in Cleveland and for the University of Miami’s Football Operations.
“Elements of producing TV shows are applicable to what I do now,” Regan said. “In producing a show you have to remember so many little details, and in what I do now, you must be very organized.”
