Fan Yang received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in Beijing, China. She then continued her studies at the University of Miami and received a Master of Arts in Communication Studies at the School of Communication. In the fall of 2013, Fan began her studies as a Ph.D student. Her research interests are health communication, intercultural communication and social media. She has received multiple awards during her life as a student, including the Outstanding Graduate Student Award at the School of Communication. Fan's hometown is Qinhuangdao, a coastal city near Beijing, China.
