This course will teach students how to critically examine the advertising & marketing industries and expose students to the current topics and trends industry-wide by offering them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the most prestigious creative festival in the world: The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. This festival is the world’s biggest celebration of creativity in communications and is the only truly global meeting place for advertisers and advertising and communication professionals (and students). Over 9,000 delegates from 90 countries attend 7 days of workshops, exhibitions, screenings, master classes, and high-profile seminars by industry leaders. More than 28,000 entries from all over the world are showcased and judged at the festival. Winners receive the highly coveted Lion trophy, presented at four award ceremonies throughout the week.

Course

Course prerequisites: Sophomore standing or above.

CAD 490: The Cannes Lions Experience

During this 10 day trip to Cannes, France, students will completely immerse themselves in a full week of exclusive seminars, workshops, master classes, awards ceremonies, galas, and networking opportunities offering an up-close and personal international, world-class experience with the best of what the industry has to offer. By the end of the class, students will have learned:

  • About the leading advertising agencies nationwide and worldwide.

  • About the industry leaders.

  • What it takes to create successful award-winning campaigns.

  • The latest and most relevant industry topics for various media worldwide.

  • About cultural differences within the industry and how they affect creative solutions.

  • A variety of creative tools for application towards personal work.

  • How to network on an international scale amongst industry leaders.
