Student Organization Faculty Advisor
AD Group
* affiliated with the American Advertising Federation.
* introduces students to the world of advertising through guest speakers and field trips to advertising agencies, the media, and suppliers in South Florida.
* members attend various functions held by the local professional club, the Advertising Federation of Greater Miami, and can volunteer their time at the January judging of the ADDY creative awards.
* scholarships and internships are available through the club's affiliation with the AAF.
* student members have the opportunity to compete in the AAF's National Student Advertising Competition that is sponsored each year by a leading corporation.

Alpha Delta Sigma
* Alpha Delta Sigma is the American Advertising Federation's national honorary society that recognizes outstanding academic achievements by college seniors majoring in advertising across the country.
* To be nominated, a student must be a senior and a member of the UM AAF chapter and have a minimum GPA of 3.25 in all advertising studies and all other courses.

* competes regionally and nationally in inter-collegiate tournaments with great success.

* a national forensic honorary society.
* membership is awarded to students who demonstrate excellence in intercollegiate forensic competition and academic achievement.

* UM chapter of the National Broadcasting Society.
* NBS membership is open to any student at the University of Miami with an interest in broadcasting or Motion Picture.
* Alpha Epsilon Rho is the broadcasting honor society within the National Broadcasting Society. Membership is gained by students who distinguish themselves through grade point average and extra-curricular work over several semesters of college.
* NBS-AERho sponsors an annual awards banquet and ceremony to honor outstanding students in all aspects of broadcast activity.

Public Relations Student Society of America
* a 20-year-old chapter sponsored by Miami chapter PRSA professional society and affiliated with PRSA national headquarters in New York City.
* open to all students interested in pursuing a public relations career.
* annual fund raising special event for scholarships and conventions allows students to gain experience working in the professional community.

Society for News Design
* UM chapter of the Society for News Design.
* the goal of the chapter is to increase interest in newspaper and magazine design on campus.
* photographers, artists, graphic designers, and informational graphics artists are all welcome to join.

Randy Stano
Society of Professional Journalists
* a student-based branch of the national organization based in Indianapolis seeks to enhance the general professionalism of journalists.
* fosters ethical and professional conduct among student journalists on the UM campus through a program of monthly meetings, seminars, guest speakers and panels, and regular attendance at regional and national SPJ conventions for both student and working journalists.
* members are interested in a broadcast journalism, print journalism, or photo journalism career.

University of Miami Filmmakers Association
* a student-run organization comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from the School of Communication's Motion Picture program.
* primary mission is to promote the presence of a film community both at the university and area level.
* annually sponsors workshops, seminars, special film screenings, and a visiting filmmaker program.
* an information bank to students.
* provides script reading services, a film script library, professional actors, and networking opportunities through alumni events.
* sponsors the 'Canes Film Festival, a bi-annual showcase of student-produced work.
