Ronald Mangravite, M.F.A. Assistant Professor, Motion Pictures |
Ron Mangravite is an award winning writer/producer. He holds an M.F.A. from the UCLA Film/TV Producers Program and an A.B. with High Honors from the University of California, Berkeley. A member of the Motion Pictures faculty since 2002, he teaches courses in screenwriting and producing and received the University of Miami’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2004. He has also taught at the American Film Institute, the Juilliard School, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of California, Berkeley.
His current projects include a feature film "ALL FOR LIBERTY" (producer, co-writer). A true story set during the American War for Independence, now in post production. Two more feature projects, "COCONUT GROVE" and "THE GREAT DIVIDE" are in development. Recent short projects have garnered prizes at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival (Silver Palmetto Award), the Miami Film Festival/Collaboration Film Contest (Best Film, Best Screenplay) and the Silver Images Film Festival in Chicago (Best of the Fest citation). He was a writer/producer/host for the weekly television series "Art Street" on PBS affiliate WLRN, co-authored The Complete Screenwriter's Manual (Allyn & Bacon, 2006) and was the influential film/theatre critic for the New Times newspapers in South Florida from 2002-2005 (First Prize, Criticism, Florida Press Association).
Prior to coming to UM, he worked in Hollywood as a script doctor (independent features), story analyst (NBC, Disney, CBS, HBO) and screenwriter. His writing work also includes eight stage plays, all produced professionally. He has directed or produced over forty professional stage productions in New York and in regional theatres and several television commercials. His acting experience includes daytime dramas, feature films, and numerous stage performances, including twenty-six of Shakespeare's plays. Mangravite is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Independent Feature Project, SAG, AEA, the University Film & Video Association and the National Association of Latin Independent Producers.
