Last Monday evening at the Shalala Student Center, University of Miami’s Debate Team hosted the team from iDebate Rwanda. The public debate focused on genocide recovery, forgiveness, and justice.
The University of Miami Debate Team earned top honors at the University of North Georgia debate invitational over the weekend of Sept. 25-27. Eight students represented The U in Parliamentary Debate competition in English and in Spanish at the event in Gainesville, Georgia. Two of the four teams advancing to the final round of Spanish language debate were UM teams.
Up early on Saturday, Sept. 26, PREP students assisted St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer.
Senior Director-Field Manager Wanda Brill said if it wasn’t for organizations like PREP they wouldn’t be able to help those in need. At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (in Memphis), families never pay for their children to receive treatment. Brill says the success of these events and the revenue it brings is ultimately what helps to save lives.
Steven Joel Sotloff was a devoted journalist, whose passion for his craft took him to faraway places to cover important stories and dangerous conflicts. In September of 2014, he lost his life at the hands of ISIS militants after being kidnapped.
