Coral Gables, FL (Dec. 13, 2007) – The Knight Center for International Media at the University of Miami School of Communication officially opened the doors of their Convergence Lab and Observational Research Suite during an evening reception and open house held on Dec. 12.  UM President Donna Shalala and School of Communication Dean, Sam L Grogg, welcomed guests for a preview of the lab and its many capabilities for learning and professional development.

Coral Gables, FL (Dec. 2.) The 2007 Miami Short Film Festival awards ceremony took place on Dec. 1, at the Miami Science Museum. The event wrapped-up the seven day festival which was presented by the School of Communication and included short films from around the world. Awards were given for best narrative, documentary, experimental, animation, local and foreign short films.

Coral Gables, FL (Dec. 5, 2007) – University of Miami School of Communication professor and Associate Dean Leonardo Ferreira published Centuries of Silence: The Story of Latin American Journalism (Westport, Conn.: Praeger) in October of 2006.  Since, his book has received highly acclaimed reviews from publications such as American Journalism, Choice, and Communication Booknotes Quarterly, among others.  Centuries of Silence has been endorsed by Latin American communication research pioneer Dr. Luis Ramiro Beltrán.
