CORAL GABLES, FL — In this world of vastly different ideas, perceptions and lifestyles, communicating with each other is more important than ever.

No one knows this better than Angie Henderson Moncada, public relations manager for Advertising Ventures, a worldwide advertising and marketing agency based in Providence, RI.

“Thanks to the Internet, work can be done anywhere on the globe,” notes Moncada, who will join a panel to discuss international relations during Communication Week 2008.

“Each day I get to use strategy and creativity to solve problems and make people happy. I work for my clients from Colombia, Ecuador, Montreal, Atlanta and, of course, Providence, and they have in many cases been none the wiser!”

Moncada, a University of Miami alumnus, will appear on the panel scheduled for 10:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in Room 2055 of the International Building at the School of Communication, 5100 Brunson Dr.

Joining her will be Kimberly Weissman, public affairs officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Isaac Nahon-Serfaty, Ph.D., of the University of Ottawa; and Morgana Rolle, public relations assistant for Unique Vacations Inc.  Panel moderator will be Donn J. Tilson, Ph.D., associate professor of public relations at UM.

Moncada credits her time in South Florida with boosting her understanding of the world.

“Living in Miami led me closer to being bilingual and bicultural,” says Moncada, “and a degree in international administration with a specialization in PR was a natural next step.”

Moncada says she can’t wait to hear what her fellow panelists have to say.

“I’m sure we’ll share our experiences of an increasingly international field, where business, charity and news know no borders.”

She also offered advice for future PR practitioners, suggesting they take advantage of training and networking opportunities.

“Don’t be afraid to market yourselves,” she says.  “You are the only client you’re sure to have for the next 50 years.”
