Harold Hamana participates in a panel on public relations in the Hispanic community
CORAL GABLES, FL – Miami, Hispanics. Miami, Hispanics. They seem to go hand in hand. And if you graduated from the University of Miami and are Hispanic, you may not need to go very far to find a rewarding career in public relations.
That’s one of the messages from a panel of PR professionals scheduled to appear at UM next week during the School of Communication’s Ninth Annual Communication Week.
Take Harold Hamana. The practice director for Burson-Marsteller, one of the world’s largest PR firms, says South Florida is a great place for developing a better understanding of diversity in general – and Hispanics in particular.
“People tend to combine Hispanics in a single group, when in reality there are very well-defined differences among the people here, who come from 18 different countries,” says Hamana, who earned his master’s degree at the School of Communication in 2002.
Hamana joins a panel of other PR practitioners to discuss Hispanic public relations at 10:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in Room 2055 of the International Building wing of the School of Communication, 5100 Brunson Dr.
Other panelists include Hamana’s fellow UM alumnus Sandra Montenegro, president of Montenegro+public relations, and Karla Hernandez, director of media relations at the University of Miami.
Communication Week offers a range of exhibits, panels, discussions and screenings with top professionals and scholars in the communication arts.
