Jay Heinrichs loves to argue, and he’s good at it. He shares his secrets at the School of Communication Courtyard Monday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
Book Event Nov. 5: Author Shares Tips for Winning Arguments
He draws logic and oratory skills from masters such as Aristotle and Lincoln, and then applies them to the arguments of everyday life, such as trying to avoid a speeding ticket.
“He’s on the radio a lot talking about how to argue with your wife and your kids, and lots of other practical settings,” said David Steinberg, UM’s director of debate.
Steinberg and the Debate Team are bringing Heinrichs to the School of Communication Courtyard Monday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
Heinrichs will present the practical lessons from his latest book, Thank You For Arguing: What Aristotle, Lincoln, and Homer Simpson Can Teach Us About the Art of Persuasion.
“This is not your usual academic put-you-to-sleep lecture,” Steinberg said. “It will be funny and engaging.”
