  • Saturday evening, Oct. 10, was the annual fundraising gala for Miami Children’s Health Foundation (MCHF) created to celebrate children, otherwise known as “diamonds.” Many people attended the ball to demonstrate their support of MCHF’s efforts, including celebrities like Armando Christian Pérez, the rapper known as Pitbull, and Cynthia Olavarria, at the JW Marriott Marquis in Downtown Miami for the 2015 MCHF Diamond Ball.

  • Distraction Magazine has won a Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association at Columbia University. The Crown Awards honor top student publications, which are judged on their design, photography, concept, coverage, and writing.  All of the publications are acknowledged as Silver Crowns, except for a select few which will be announced as Gold Crowns at the ceremony in New York City in March of 2016.

  • This past weekend, the University of Miami Debate Team competed at the Sunshine State Showdown Fall Debate Scrimmage at the University of Central Florida. Adding another successful performance, the team debated against the four other universities in Florida who compete in intercollegiate policy debate.

  • The University of Miami Debate Team earned top honors at the University of North Georgia debate invitational over the weekend of Sept. 25-27.  Eight students represented The U in Parliamentary Debate competition in English and in Spanish at the event in Gainesville, Georgia. Two of the four teams advancing to the final round of Spanish language debate were UM teams.
