Coral Gables, FL (July 10, 2009) - Dean Sam L Grogg announced the appointment of Associate Professor Dia Kontaxis to Motion Picture Program Director, on June 12. Professor Kontaxis, who has been with the University of Miami School of Communication since 2001, will oversee all matters related to the School’s motion picture program including curriculum development and implementation, advising, faculty affairs, and related student and academic affairs.
“Dia Kontaxis’ commitment to the School and the Motion Picture program is without question,” said Dean Grogg, “she will bring an entrepreneurial, international and independent vision to this important area of the School.” Grogg also noted that Kontaxis had recently been awarded promotion and tenure with the University and School based on a stellar portfolio of creative work.
Professor Kontaxis’ films have explored the intersection of art and moving image, tracing the profiles of artists and places, as they combine elements of memory, biography and history. In 2007 Professor Kontaxis completed a subjective documentary on the creation of six works of public art and their integration to the new Miami Performing Arts Center – a project commissioned by Miami Dade County Art in Public Places.
Before joining the School of Communication, Professor Kontaxis was on the faculty of Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York and Miami Dade College.
