Coral Gables, FL (May19, 2008) - The Society of Professional Journalists announced the national winners of the 2007 Mark of Excellence Awards. The Miami Hurricane newspaper staff and former Editor, Greg Linch, won first place in the Online News Reporting category for their coverage of “The Presidential Forum at UM.”
SPJ’s annual Mark of Excellence awards honor the best of student journalism in 39 different categories for print, radio, television and online work. This year, collegiate journalists submitted more than 3,400 entries.
Also honored at the awards was School of Communication Broadcast Journalism student, Irma Murillo, who won second place in the TV Feature Photography category with, “Dolphins,” a story about special needs children swimming with dolphins in Key Largo.
The national winners will be recognized at SPJ’s 2008 Convention & National Journalism Conference in Atlanta on Sept. 5.
