Gaby Loria’s story on a cancer survivor took second place in the Best Hard News Feature category. News Vision’s producer, Chris Nielsen, also won a scholarship award from the AP.

News Vision was also named the second Best College Newscast in the Southeast by the Society of Professional Journalists. SPJ held it’s Region three annual meeting in Hollywood over the weekend.

The following broadcast journalism students won individual SPJ awards:

Irma Murillo, First Place, Television Feature Photography, for her story on autistic children riding horses.

Gaby Loria, Second Place, Television Feature, for her story on a cancer survivor with a new nose.

Nick Maslow, Second Place, Television News Photography, for his story on crocodiles on the UM campus.

Joanna Suarez, Third Place, Television Feature Photography, for her story on deaf students putting on a play.
